Case 1: From the initial idea of a book to its successful publication
The scenario: The author has already developed a book idea and received an initial offer from a publisher. This offer is financially far below what would be acceptable. In addition, the book idea has much more to offer. The author has published extensively, but has never written a popular non-fiction book and is looking for an agent to navigate them safely through these new waters. They want their book to be an international success, as they are very successful in their profession on the international stage. A co-author is also needed due to time constraints.
Approach: I discuss with the author what a successful book could look like. Furthermore, I examine the possibilities in terms of PR and marketing, such as talk show appearances and the production of a podcast. Together, we develop a strong book synopsis for publisher acquisition that builds on the initial book idea and expands upon it extensively. I also look for a suitable co-author: an experienced journalist who can do a lot with the book subject and knows the author already. In the next step, I talk to suitable publishers and arrange personal meetings with the publisher, author and co-author.
The result: After the proposal phase, I find a publisher who is enthusiastic about the project. The publisher entrusts me with press relations, events and the arrangement of the audiobook and podcast. Based on our collaborative ideas, the project is sold in numerous countries shortly afterwards. The book is on the SPIEGEL bestseller list for weeks. Speaker and TV engagements follow.
